Customized electrofusion (tramex) grids: strength and safety

Electrofused gratings (tramex) are manufactured by welding load-bearing plates and rods at each crossing, achieving a very rigid structure for walkways, platforms and stairs. They are supplied from stock or custom-made, with anti-slip options and 8×8 mesh. Tell us load and span between supports and we will recommend the right configuration.

WHAT IT IS

What is an electrofusion grid?

A electrofusion grid (also known as electrofused tramex) is a metallic grating made up of load-bearing plates (the “strips” that support the load) and transverse rods (rounded round), joined together by fusion welding at each fusion welding at each crossing. This point-to-point bonding creates a very solid and stable structure, ideal for walkways, platforms, stairways, stairways, manholes and transit areas.

The great advantage of electrofusion is that it is welded at all points, allows for cut-outs and custom shapes (according to plan or hole on site) no risk of disassembly. It is a practical solution when you need safety, drainage/ventilation and durable installation in industrial or construction environments.

GRID TYPES

Types of Electrofusion Grids

Plate + rod

Combining flat bars and rods, they can be manufactured in different grids according to special needs, according to drawings or details provided by the customer, or we always have stock material in 30×30 mesh and 30×2 or 30×3 flat bars.

Plate + rod + security mesh 8x8

The 8×8 mesh in tramex is a safety finish in which 8×8 mm plates with holes are welded and placed just below the rounded round to protect against the possible fall of objects or tools on the floor below.

Toothed plate + rod + safety mesh 8x8

The toothed gratings are manufactured with the saw-toothed supporting plate to achieve a super anti-slip finish which can also be combined with the addition of the 8×8 safety mesh.

Large loads

The gratings can be manufactured to support the passage of large loads, for which plates of greater thicknesses and greater heights than the standard ones are used, with thicknesses ranging from 2 mm to 8 mm and plate heights from 20 mm to 100 mm, always leaving special cases to be studied.

APPLICATIONS

Frequent applications by sector

Electrofused (tramex) gratings are used primarily where you need a resilient, draining/ventilating surface that is safe for traffic and maintenance. Typical applications:

Frequently asked questions about Electrofusion Grids

Check out the 10 frequently asked questions about electrofused gratings: advantages, regulations, deadlines, loading, installation and more.

What is an electrofusion grid (tramex)?

It is a metallic grating where supporting plates and rods are welded at each crossing, creating a very stable and resistant grid.

What is the difference between electrofused grid and pressed/welded grid?

Electrofused is welded point to point at each crossing (maximum rigidity). Pressed/welded usually offers more aesthetic variety of meshes and configurations, depending on the system.

Which mesh is the most common?

The most common is the 30×30but there are other meshes depending on use, security and object passage.

What is the load-bearing plate and how to choose it?

The load-bearing plate is the one that “holds” the load. It is chosen according to the light between supports and the type of load (pedestrian, maintenance, heavy load).

When should a super anti-slip grating (toothed plate) be used?

When there is humidity, oils or risk of slipping (outdoors, industry, washing areas, ramps or stairs).

What is 8×8 mesh and what is it used for?

It is an additional safety mesh that reduces falling objects/tools and improves the feeling of security when walking.

What finishes do you recommend: galvanized, untreated or lacquered?

For outdoor or humid environments, the usual is galvanized. For interior or subsequent finishing on site, it can be used for without treatment. The RAL lacquered is used when aesthetics and color are paramount.

Can it be made to size or with cut-outs (manholes, pipe passages, shapes)?

Yes, we can manufacture to size and cut to drawing; when necessary, areas are reinforced to maintain rigidity and safety.

What data do you need to recommend the right grid?

Panel dimensions, span between supportsThe correct configuration is defined by the type of load, type of load, finish (galvanized/stainless steel/lacquered), quantity and place of delivery. This defines the correct configuration.

Is the electrofused grating suitable for vehicular traffic?

It can be useful, but it totally depends on the load and the span between supports. It is advisable to calculate it with tables and technical validation.

How is an electrofused grid fixed?

Normally with clamps/clamping pieces y tornillería adecuada al soporte. Correct fastening prevents vibrations and increases safety.

What maintenance is required?

Very little: periodic cleaning and visual inspection of fasteners and areas of increased wear (especially outdoors or in aggressive environments).
